Curses! drops new single So Good

CursesIt had been a while since I looked up the Trouble & Bass crew and what they were all up to (apart from looking puzzled when they died and promptly came back to life). Longer still since I’d heard much about Luca Venezia and either of his Drop The Lime or Curses! aliases.

Could this be the end of Plastician?

PlasticianThere’s a wrong way to do things and then there’s the right way to do things; and Plastician has fortunately fallen into the latter camp as he announces the retirement of the Plastician name with a boatload of sugar to help the medicine go down.

Blow Your Head #4: Drop The Lime

It’s been a long time since I’ve written about either Drop The Lime or Mad Decent, but this short video really struck me. Apart from the cliched video editing, Luca Venezia actually gives some pretty fascinating insight into the current musical landscape.

Drop The Lime signs to Ultra and AC Slater gives you the shirt off his back

Wow, big day for Trouble & Bass: Drop The Lime, ahead of the release of his new LP in September, has signed to gargantuan independent (make of that what you will) imprint Ultra. In addition to that, his bestest pal AC Slater has been giving away one bootleg every week this month,

Yes, it came to his attention that his recent tour in Australia may have made the rest of planet Earth feel rather neglected and malnourished. In light of this, he’s not only thrown remixes at us like it were steak dinners in a soup kitchen, he’s also recorded four hour-long mixes for the ever-brilliant Triple J Radio.

You can grab the whole lot at his Soundcloud page. If you still need persuading, you should download this track and then punch yourself hard in the kidneys.

New Hot As Hell remix

As with all Drop The Lime singles these days, ‘Hot As Hell’ is already a big deal several months before it’s been released. A while back Canblaster‘s remix was leaked to widespread acclaim and now it’s the turn of Nouveau Yorican.

Consisting of Gina Turner and Laidback Luke, Nouveau Yorican’s last single ‘Boriqua’ was backed with remixes by Douster, Harvard Bass and Sandro Silva and received a great deal of support from their label Sound Pellegrino. Expect to hear about nothing else for the next six months until Trouble & Bass release it early 2011.

Drop The Lime to release new EP in January

Luca Venezia aka Drop The Lime is set to release a new EP on his own Trouble & Bass imprint. The new single, ‘Hot As Hell’ has been creating a buzz on all the internet windows.

It’s scheduled for a release date in January next year and will no doubt feature a star-studded list of producers on remix duty. One such remix from Nightshifters newbie Canblaster has already leaked all over the internet like a punctured catheter bag.

Grab the mp3 of Canblaster’s remix below and, if you’re in the area, try and catch him live on the ‘Hot As Hell’ tour.

New Drop The Lime rockabilly project!

Rockabilly is apparently the way forward according to Diplo and Drop The Lime. Recently Drop The Lime announced the formation of a new band: Bad Lupo Grande (that’s Big Bad Wolf to you).

The first single ‘Rockabilly Fever’ comes out on August 17th on of Scion. Not sure even with Luca’s backing if rockabilly will really take off but it’s an interesting effort at a time when everyone seems to be playing it pretty safe. Leave it to Drop The Lime to shake things up, keep things wild, and show off some well-versed creativity.

New Sharkslayer mix for Top Billin

The very awesome Top Billin have just posted a new DJ set in their series, produced by Finnish duo Sharkslayer.

Here’s what XLR8R.com had to say about things:

“Sharkslayer’s mix is bass-heavy and club-ready, to be sure, but in ways less typical than most. XLR8R producers of interest Drop the Lime, Egyptrixx, Cosmin TRG, and Supra1 all make appearances throughout the set’s hour-plus runtime, along with exciting contributions from a handful of low-end-dedicated dance music’s lesser known tunesmiths.”
