Trouble & Bass veteran Star Eyes has teamed up with 5kin (of 5kinandbone5) for a brand new project Dark Ages, mixing the darkest elements of garage, dubstep and drum & bass. If you remember that period in D&B where everything got really slow and menacing right before dubstep kicked off, it’s a lot like that but without the boring swagger. Also, the press release is to die for (what a revolting sentence).
Trondheim, Norway’s Marius Mevold aka Slick Shoota is not overly concerned with keeping scenes at a local level, always wanting to spread the word, taking new sounds to new places. Which is why it seems perversely apt that he should release an EP of juke and footwork tracks that would sound most at home in a sweaty little club in Chicago.
The connection between Trondheim, Norway and Chicago, Illinois is not an obvious one, but it’s one that seems to make sense to Slick Shoota all the same. Taking the tom tom-laiden Chicago juke sound and putting his own spin on the style he creates “Slick Juke”, which is exactly what we get on his new EP for Chrissy Murderbot’s Loose Squares imprint.
