Halo Cyan are a label that piqued my interest recently with a succession of well-produced, slick EPs from some of my favourite artists, all done with utmost modesty. Every release has pretty much identical artwork (blue background, plain text) yet time and time again their releases are featured in the best of lists of those in the know.
One release which is sure to join its predecessors in the electronic music canon is the new EP from Finnish producer Aki Latvamäki, ‘It Is Not Now Either’. Full of perfectly executed techno that flits effortlessly between acid techno, house, downtempo, IDM and so many other genres and styles they number too many for me too mention.
If you’re a fan of the kind of techno pushed by the likes of B.Yrslf, DirtyBird and Hotflush then this should be right up your cul-de-sac. Squelchy synths, a solid beat and plenty of bass unite in wonderful, bone-rattling harmony.
