Having released one of the seminal albums in the post-dubstep crash, last year’s ‘Parodia Flare’, Chris Ward aka Tropics has migrated from Planet Mu to Serbian label Svetlana Industries for the release of his new EP ‘Popup Cinema’.
The new three track EP builds on the warmth and understated drive of ‘Parodia Flare’ but adds some murky vocals and a more prominent beat into the mix. It’s more upbeat than I’m used to hearing from Tropics, but only just; there’s no pounding kick drum or anything more aggressive than a gentle, pulsing rhythm to keep the track going.
