I’m not usually in the habit of posting mashups – there are so many about and generally they lack substance. Every now and again, though, something comes along that I simply can’t ignore. Step forward, Dub Boy.
Long known for his bass-heavy dancehall and UK funky, Tim “Dub Boy” Rayner recently put together a mashup of two outstanding dancehall/ragga collaborations that came out this year. The first was a recent collaboration between Schlachthofbronx and Warrior Queen entitled ‘Dickie Riddim’ and the second was Mungo’s Hi-Fi’s collaboration with Daddy Freddy, whom you may recognise from a wealth of material recorded with The Bug.
The end result was this track, ‘Dickie Diseases’, a squelching throb of a track that omitted Daddy Freddy’s vocals in favour of Warrior Queen’s trademark old-school ragga style. You can download ‘Dickie Diseases’ by clicking the arrow on the right of the console at the bottom of this post.
On top of all that, Dub Boy also recently recorded a rather magnificent set for the tastemaking Subsize show on Brap FM. You catch it in all its dancehall glory below via Mixcloud. Featuring tracks and riddims from the likes of Mr. Vegas, Daddy Freddy, Face-T, General Levy and, of course, the Schlachthofbronx/Warrior Queen/Mungo’s Hi-Fi mashup among many others.
