Bespoke beat-wizard Daedelus has always been known for his unique arrangements and off-kilter percussion, so naturally his remixes tend to take tracks a million miles from their starting point. Case in point: his new remix of Purity Ring‘s ‘Cartographist’.
As Mr. Darlington himself puts it, “Purity Ring’s ‘Shrines’ is a sounding board of this passing Summer; perhaps more a Ouija board in fact,” according to the Los Angeles beat sage. “I’ve been listening with curious ears, and fell into a remix of ‘Cartographist’. I do hope you enjoy this terrible perversion of their lullingbyes into a more brooding and ominous clouding.”
In other words, he sped the original right up, added some disorienting footwork snares and some weird squelchy synth patterns and then put it through a blender. In a good way, of course.
