The somewhat enigmatic Gerry Read has been hard at work in his Bury St. Edmunds abode finishing up work on his new single and subsequent album. The single ‘Evidence’ (which you can stream below) is set for a 16 September release and will be followed by the ‘Jummy’ LP in October.
Hoping to build on the success of his critically acclaimed 12″ records for Fourth Wave last year, Read has been perfecting his knack for mind-shattering percussion and industrial sound collages. His new single ‘Evidence’ is a perfect example of his as driving and disorienting as ever, uniting dancefloor melodies with skull-crushing percussive techno.
His music has been described as “house music Avalanches” but I think one could definitely count the likes of Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle among Read’s influences. This is music that takes you straight back to the early 80s industrial wastelands evoked by Detroit techno and even British post-punk.
‘Evidence’ will be released 16 September on Fourth Wave, followed by ‘Jummy’ some time in October on the same label.
