Having been lauded by the international music press for his debut effort ‘Moonlight’, Bobby Champs is back with a new EP for Pictures Music that recalls “Berlin’s midnight and London’s 3AM”.
The new EP, ‘Drag Queen’, features an ominous batch of shimmering techno that’s as disorienting as it is uplifting. Playfully flitting between tempos, styles and textures, Bobby Champs is a welcome addition to the new wave of house and techno championed by the likes of Scuba and the Hotflush gang.
This new track is the first I’ve heard from the new EP and hints at a level of brilliance that could see Mr. Champs jettisoned from obscurity into the big time. Expect deep bass, ethereal synth washes and whimsical vocal cuts all spliced together in a way that would shame Claude VonStroke.
