As we all know, those digital singles and double a-sides look horribly untidy in the music collection of the compulsively organised, so it’s jolly good news to hear that Kieran “Four Tet” Hebden will be fixing that with a new full length album entitled ‘Pink’ that features all the tracks he’s been gradually leaking over the past year.
6music nerds and fans of his Text label will be all too familiar with some of the tracks featured, namely ‘Locked’, ‘Jupiters’, ’128 Harps’ and ‘Pinnacles’. But that’s not to say there won’t be some surprises and value for money for those who already forked out for the singles (or for those who happen to be aware of Soundcloud), there will be several tracks that have yet to see the light of day, including ‘Lion’ and ‘Peace For Earth’ among others.
I’m sure I won’t be the only Four Tet fan to look forward to this LP since Hebden was always what one would call an “album artist”, crafting music that existed as a part of a whole rather than someone who simply put singles out. That said, his recent sonic development has veered ever-so-slightly towards club music, albeit at the darker, techier end of the spectrum. Only time will tell as to whether these tracks will sit comfortably with the rest of the album or whether they’ll stick out like a sore thumb.
