As David Quantick once said, “pop will eat itself”. And it has, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. While some find it frustrating that the history of music is circular, history isn’t necessarily “doomed” to repeat itself.
Take Reso‘s Jungle reworking of ‘Ulysses’ from Om Unit‘s ‘Aeolian’ EP (out next month). The original is a fast-paced 2-step number, but when Reso gets his hands on it he takes us back to the days when IDM, jungle and breakcore all intermarried, bearing beautiful children all with his own unique stamp on it.
If you like your breaks fast and noisy, check this remix out (although, you’ll only find it on the digital version). While it’s markedly different from the rest of the EP, it only emphasises the darkness of this space-age bass exploration.
