KOTJ Radio | Episode 33: Legowelt

Hot on the heels of the utterly bizarre Memphis Rap Mixtape comes Legowelt‘s magnificent techno onslaught. Though it’s dominated by Legowelt productions (most of which are unreleased), there are a few select tracks from the likes of Actress, Aphex Twin under his Polygon Window alias and Xamiga.

Legowelt’s mix, as with his music, draws together the influence of the robotic funk of Model 500, Blake Baxter and Underground Resistance with the soulful groove of Farley Jackmaster Funk, Armando Gallop and Mr. Fingers. Add to that his predilection for ambience and IDM and you’ve got a raw, unique take on house and techno.

At times thumping, at others hypnotic, Legowelt’s music is constantly evolving, even within the tracks themselves. And his mix is endemic of that, shifting effortlessly between heartfelt vocal house, acid techno and almost industrial drumbeats.
