Atmospheric LA beatmaker Matthewdavid has just released a rather special CD-R package of moody, barren soundscapes. At times warm, at others cold and hostile, but always thought-provoking.
It should come as no surprise that an artist whose XLR8R podcast included track titles as “Mexican tape from the ’80s I ended up throwing away” should release an album that sounds like it’s packed full of field recordings, tape delays and no end of knob-twiddling weirdness.
The new record ‘Disk II’ will see a limited release of just 150 copies on his own Leaving Records. Below is a download link for the second track from the album, ‘Tape 2′. The sonic equivalent of an arctic tundra, the analogue hisses and gentle synth pads remind one of a cold wind beating on your eardrums or the distorted crackle left over from the big bang.
