Italian duo Ether comprise Andrea Bracali and Francesco Bigazz. Drawing on some of the finest hip-hop, IDM, glitch and chillwave, Ether offer up an entirely appropriate selection for the batshit weather we’ve been having in Blighty lately.
There are simply too many highlights to mention in this mixtape; abstract hip-hop, chillwave, dub and 8-bit broken beat all get a look-in as Ether demonstrate precisely what it means to have “the ear”. A lot of people dismiss the current wave of downtempo electronica as cold and emotionless but every last second of this mix completely blows such an opinion out of the water. It’s nothing short of an electric cuddle – never has IDM been so joyous and uplifting.
Beautifully, there’s even a bit of slow jazz at the end which makes you want to visit Seattle and drink martinis. Either that or just watch Frasier. It’s a beautiful, lilting collection with lots of unexptected twists and turns to keep you on your feet.
