It’s been some time since I’ve written about any Nightshifters releases, certainly since Hostage released ‘Witches’, but now they’re back in force with a release from one of their latest signings Lucid.
Lucid’s debut for the label ‘The New Reprise’ borrows heavily from early House and Techno samples, weaving in early Electro and classic Hip-Hop, Lucid brings all of these influences to a contemporary head with lots of “woosh” sounds and chopped rave vocals for a clap-heavy House number. I honestly couldn’t tell you whether this uptempo or downtempo, it somehow manages to be fast and slow all at the same time.
Remixes for this come from Club Cheval’s Sam Tiba on ‘Shh’ (which you can download after the video), while B’more originator Scottie B smashes the living daylights out of ‘Jumbo’, with UK producer Norrit taking the latter track to the polar opposite end of the spectrum.
There’s also an eye-blistering video for ‘Closed Eye’ to go with it, lovingly crafted by one Mark Brown, which you can see below. The EP’s already been out for nine days, so why the hell haven’t you got a copy?
