Damon Albarn travels to the Congo with T.E.E.D., Actress and more

Damon Albarn has announced the beginnings of a new project involving some of the most sought-after musicians as well as local artists from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The collaboration is to be completed in seven days and all proceeds go to Oxfam for their work in the DRC, with whom Albarn also worked by way of the ‘Mali Music’ album.

According to the project’s Tumblr account, work has begun on the new album and two local acts have been introduced into the fold: Tout Puissant Mukalo and Mdara-Mamianga. There promises to be more artists announced over the next few weeks and months.

What is certain is the roll call of artists Albarn’s recruited to help him: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Actress, Dan the Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Marc Antoine, Jo Gunton, Kwes and XL boss Richard Russell.

The new album is rumoured to be penned for a release via Warp Records.
